Hollywood South Reception Spotlights New Orleans

This reception brought together industry professionals, local talent, and regional bankers with interests in investing in film projects.

“We are constantly exploring ways to enhance New Orleans’ reputation as a hot location for filming,” Mayor Nagin said. “Increased production in ‘Hollywood South’ means jobs and economic development for our citizens.”
The reception provided a chance to accelerate networking, facilitate new business relationships, and increase new film production in New Orleans, which will stimulate revenue for citizens and the City.
Louisiana has seen over $250 million in film production work during Mayor Nagin’s administration, much of which has been in New Orleans. Some of the major motion picture projects filmed in the city include Mr. 3000, starring Bernie Mac, and Ray, starring Jamie Foxx.
Film activity has increased dramatically since the Louisiana legislature passed tax incentives for film productions, including a provision for productions hiring local talent to receive an additional payroll credit.
Tax incentives play a large part in keeping Louisiana competitive for film productions with countries like Canada, Japan, and New Zealand.
Local businesses, including technical support, creative workers, and the service industry, stand to benefit from new projects. Mayor Nagin is committed to bringing a movie production facility to New Orleans, along with developing the local workforce to support increased production.
